Yala Safari Price 2026: Full Cost Breakdown

Here's every real number behind a Yala safari in 2026, in one place: the DWC park entrance fee, the private jeep rental rate, what's actually bundled into a total, and roughly what that comes to in USD. These are the same figures the booking engine and packages page calculate live, not separate marketing numbers.

How much does a Yala safari cost?

For a typical foreign adult in a cozy jeep at the Palatupana gate, an all-inclusive dawn or dusk half-day starts from LKR 31,050 (about $94), and a full day from LKR 45,050 (about $137). That's the jeep, the driver, the DWC park entrance ticket and the driver's own required ticket, all in one number, for up to 6 guests sharing one jeep.

USD figures throughout this page are estimates only, converted at roughly LKR 330 to $1 (the Central Bank of Sri Lanka's indicative rate moves daily). Your exact LKR total, calculated for your group, nationality, block and jeep type, is what actually applies: see it live in the booking engine.

DWC park entrance fee (by group size)

The Department of Wildlife Conservation prices the entrance ticket as one collective total for the whole group, by adult headcount, not a flat per-person rate, so the average cost per person drops as your group grows.

Adults Foreign total (LKR) ≈ USD SAARC total (LKR) ≈ USD
1 16,000 $48 14,350 $43
2 26,500 $80 23,200 $70
3 35,500 $108 30,550 $93
4 46,500 $141 39,900 $121
5 56,500 $171 48,250 $146
6 66,500 $202 56,600 $172

Children aged 6–12 add a flat LKR 5,790 (foreign) or LKR 3,860 (SAARC) each; under-6s are free. Every private jeep also carries a flat LKR 150 entrance ticket for the driver, on top of the totals above, since DWC requires the driver to hold one too.

SAARC nationals (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan) need a valid passport from a SAARC country at the gate to get this rate. Without it, DWC charges the standard foreign rate instead.

Local visitors (Sri Lankan citizens and resident-visa holders) aren't on this table at all: locals buy their own DWC entry ticket directly at the gate, and we never purchase or charge for it. The local rate below covers the jeep and driver only.

Private jeep rental rate (by block and duration)

Fixed per jeep, not per person, for up to 6 guests, and the same rate regardless of nationality.

Gate / block Cozy jeep, half-day Cozy jeep, full day Luxury jeep, half-day Luxury jeep, full day
Palatupana (Block I/II) LKR 14,900 (≈ $45) LKR 28,900 (≈ $88) LKR 17,600–18,000 (≈ $53–55) LKR 32,500 (≈ $98)
Katagamuwa (Block I/II) LKR 19,900 (≈ $60) LKR 33,900 (≈ $103) LKR 22,600–23,000 (≈ $68–70) LKR 37,500 (≈ $114)
Galge (Block IV/V) LKR 19,900 (≈ $60) LKR 33,900 (≈ $103) LKR 22,600–23,000 (≈ $68–70) LKR 37,500 (≈ $114)

Katagamuwa and Galge both add the same flat LKR 5,000 to the Palatupana base rate, our operator's cost of travelling further to reach either gate. Cozy jeeps are side-seating Mahindra or Tata; luxury jeeps are forward-facing Mitsubishi or Toyota.

Two or more foreign or SAARC visitors at the Palatupana gate can book ride share instead of a private jeep: a flat LKR 7,500 (cozy jeep, Mahindra) or LKR 8,500 (luxury jeep, Toyota Hilux) per person for a half-day. If no other riders are available to share, the safari runs as a private charter instead, at the private rate.

Local safari rate (jeep and driver only)

Local visitors pay the same jeep rate as everyone else, plus the driver's own LKR 150 entrance ticket, but not the DWC entrance ticket itself, since locals buy that themselves at the gate.

Safari Rate (LKR)
Dawn half-day, Palatupana 15,050
Dusk half-day, Palatupana 15,050
Full-day, Palatupana 29,050

Local bookings cover Block I, Block IV and Block V. Only Block II needs special DWC permission for local visitors and isn't offered as a standard rate.

What's included, and what isn't

Included: the jeep (private charter, up to 6 guests), an experienced driver-tracker, and (unless you book without tickets) the DWC park entrance ticket for your whole group plus the driver's own required ticket. Hotel pickup within the Tissamaharama area is included at no extra charge.

Not included: food, drinks, gratuities, and DWC entrance tickets for local visitors (bought directly at the gate).
